About

10479938_1592271174342529_1064545708432122295_oHi! My name is Ashley Elizabeth Wood.  I tutor and give private language lessons in Spanish and English in the metro-Atlanta area. With more than 10 years of experience, I specialize in tutoring all levels and all ages. I also offer all my lessons online for my students who do not live in Atlanta, Georgia.

Because of my extensive language learning background, I have managed a way to simplify Spanish and English grammar rules, making them easy to use and remember. I also have great tips on memorizing vocabulary, perfecting pronunciation and passing difficult exams. It doesn’t matter how “lost” or “behind” my students are; I can always find a way to ease their pain and help them build confidence, get good grades and obtain valuable language skills.

The lessons I teach are individually focused and we work on everything from grammar, to vocabulary to accent reduction. In both English and Spanish, I can teach you how to sound more like a native speaker. And because I teach with my own unique materials and a combination of resources, it’s not a one-size-fits-all way to learn. You can find more information here.

I have taught various levels of Spanish at The Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, The University of Georgia and Clayton State University. My bachelor’s degree is from Georgia Tech, in international affairs and modern languages. My master’s is from Georgia State in Hispanic linguistics, and I have completed one year of coursework at the University of Georgia as a Ph.D. student in romance language linguistics.

My areas of expertise include Spanish linguistics, grammar, language instruction, accent reduction and literature, English accent reduction, writing and conversation, German (basic to intermediate), Latin (basic to intermediate), sociology, history and geography. I speak fluent English, Spanish and German. I have varying degrees of knowledge in Latin, Russian, Albanian, French, Portuguese and Italian.

My client base is made up primarily of students who need help with Spanish for school and professionals who are learning Spanish (usually from scratch) for work. I also have a wide variety of adult students who are learning English as a second language in the United States. I have tutored all levels and abilities in both English and Spanish and use my own materials for private lessons – eliminating the requirement of the student to purchase materials.

I love to write, so this website has some of my personal writing on it. You can learn about the different blogs and organizations that I write for here.

I am the Executive Director of Albanian Voices. It is an organization that records and preserves Albanian oral history. You can learn more about that here.
